Atlaslogy
Atlaslogy can be applied at any stage of life, from infancy through to old age.
Atlaslogy can help prevent discomfort and physical problems. It can be regarded as a contribution to preventive healthcare, with treatment aimed at activating the body’s natural self-healing abilities.
The Atlas and Its Function
The atlas, the first cervical vertebra, together with the second cervical vertebra, the axis, forms the joints connecting the head and the spine. These joints are the most mobile part of the spinal column.
Despite its small contact surface, on which the head primarily performs nodding movements, the atlas plays an important role in supporting the weight of the head, which is approximately five to seven kilograms.
The historical analogy with Atlas, the Titan of Greek mythology who carried the heavens, seems fitting when describing the weight-bearing function of this small vertebra. Unlike the other movable vertebrae of the spine, there is no intervertebral disc between the atlas and the axis.
